It’s a dream come true.  You have just driven off the dealer’s lot in your new BMW 3 series vehicle and she’s absolutely beautiful.  This is going to be your biggest investment next to your home so protect her wisely and follow some basic car care maintenance.
* Frequent washings:  You don’t have to be a slave to your car but keeping it clean will go a long way to maintaining resale value.  Additionally the car will look better, you will feel more pride in driving, and that pride will translate to respect for the vehicle.
* Follow the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance schedule:  the people who designed and engineered your car are the experts in how to keep it running efficiently.  Listen to what they tell you.
* Take care of repairs in a timely manner:  Today’s cars last much longer with less care than they used to, but that doesn’t mean you can avoid any issues that arise.  If something sounds out of whack or smells funny have it checked out by a professional.
* Give quick attention to dents and paint chips:  Something that seems very minor can grow into a monster before you know it.  Untreated damage that is exposed to the elements will quickly rust.  There are many specialty repair shops now that will take care of small problems efficiently and affordably.
* Don’t forget to wax:  Do some research and find a premium wax product for your premium vehicle.  At least once a year park the vehicle in the shade and rub and polish till you both beam with pride.
* Have a yearly check-up:  You may easily remember to change the oil and check the fluids, but many drivers forget to inspect belts and hoses, alignment, suspension and tire rotation.  Preventative measures will save you in the long run and prolong the good running operation of the vehicle.
* Don’t be a tightwad:  When it comes time for a replacement part use only those that are approved by the manufacturer.  Develop a relationship with your service technician and make sure he knows your standards.
* Hold on to all your records:  Start a file for your vehicle and every time you have service performed put the receipt in the file.  When it comes time to sell prospective buyers will be impressed with your conscientiousness and you can command a better price for the car.
